Odd shed

Kiknskreem Nov 19, 2005 09:50 AM

Hi all, I've had my burm since for just over a month, and about 5 days ago his eye's clouded up, no big deal, he's just about to shed. The eyes have already cleared so I'm expecting the shed anyday. His skin, however, seems very "crinkly", difficult to describe, almost like dried up cellophane. None has come loose, but it has a definite odd look and feel to it, as well, the skin is forming to the texture of the reptibark he lives on. If he stays in one spot the entire texture is imprinted on him. He has a water bowl he drinks frequently from, and I'm giving him a ten minute soak every day during shed. 60% humidity. I'd imagine dehydration could be ruled out. I've never seen this with my corns or ball before, so I'm just a little curious. Anyone seen this before?

Well by the time I got home today he had shed. Was a little tattered, guess I'll up it to 70% humidity next time. He's peacky keen now, I guess it was just the loose skin breaking free from his body that gave him the weird look.

when its in shed try raising the humidity to 80% things go much better

60% is, in my opinion, to low for a maintained humidity. In my experience i have always tried to maintain a humidity of 70-75% and during sheds bumb it up to about 80-85. This has always worked the best for me and I know many others that use the smae numbers without any problems. Hope this helps..Todd
