pacman problem

johnnyblazekfd Jul 22, 2003 08:47 PM

Just to let those know that paid attention to my last post, PetCo finally gave in and said that they will replace my frog THIS TIME, like they were doing me a favor. I got a small albino on Sunday.

Anyways, now to my problem. Im not having as much luck with these smaller ones as I am with my big one. My big pacman will eat anything that moves as soon as I drop it in front of him. The smaller one on the other really doesnt seem as agressive. I havent seen it eat yet. I couldnt get it to eat readily, I mean I saw crickets walk right in front of his face and he didnt budge, so I left a cricket in the cage overnight with him and it was gone so I guess he ate it. Shouldnt he be gobbling everything in sight or do you guys think he just needs more time to settle in?. Any advice would be helpful

It could take some time for him to settle in. Or he may not like eating with people in the same room, I'v ehad horned frogs like that. It could be temperatures or it could be something like him not liking his surroundings.

I have both my large and small pacman in the same location on my dresser but in different cages and that environment (temp/lighting) seems to work for the larger one so far. I was just wondering because Ive heard here and read in books that juv pacmans will eat anything they can fit in their mouths (like my larger one, my wife named him chub chub because he's a pig and he'll eat anything in sight) and this juv didnt seem to be so agressive. I guess he just may need to settle in, but I have him in the same setup as the petstore had him in so theres not much to adapt to. Are anyones pacmans so timid? Im just not used to this and I want to be sure he's alright.

My adult male is very timid, he used to refuse to eat unless I wasn't in the room, until I gave him soil to dig into and hide. He refuses to bite even if you try to get him to bite. So yeah I would say I have a timid horned frog.

It's no problem, because that is how my horned frog is. He was very nervous with anyone at first, and didn't eat for the first week that I had him, and he was a juvenile. Plus, my frog doesn't seem to like being as aggressive, when I am in his sight. When I throw a goldfish in, he seems to usually go right after it, but when I put crickets in, he doesn't seem to like eating them when I am in his sight, and he is up on a table, so I just crouch down, so he can't see me, and I cannot see him, and once I hear him lunge for the food (which doesn't take long), I will slowly come back up to see cricket legs sticking out of his mouth.

I feel much better now. I did some experimenting yesterday and bought a pinky just to try it out becuase he didnt seem interested in the crickets and he ate it in no time. The dang thing was almost as big as he was and he gobbled it up almost as soon as I put it in there. Since he was so skittish, I decided not to hover over him and watch so I just dropped it in and left. Right after I walked away I heard a noise and went back to look and he had it in his mouth. Im so relieved, I was worried about him.

My larger pacman is very agressive when it comes to food, but he has never attempted to bite me. I take him out of his tank with the substrate and place him in a small emtpy rubbermaid container. As soon as I set him down, I drop his food in and hell grab it as soon as he sees it moving. Sometimes I even put my hand in there to push a mealworm or something back in front of him and he'll grab it before I can even get my hand out of the container. Hes not hesitant or scared of me at all so thats why I was worried about my little one.
