Here is a pic of my red iguana, Nim. This is about 2 weeks after he came home from the pet store.

I'd estimate him to be 4 to 6 months old.

what pet store did you get him from? was it a reptile shop or like a big chain of stores?

I got him at a Memphis PetCo. I hear all sorts of horror stories about them, but this one was clean, the vertical tanks were warm with heat lamps for basking (no comment on the lack of UV). The cage was clean and the food fresh. The diet was so-so to pretty good, but everyone there kept telling me to feed him lots of carrots.

I was surprised when they asked me about his enclosure and diet. I've never had anyone quiz me before....so not bad on their part.

I'm interested in seeing how much of his redish-brown/orange-brown color he retains when he becomes an adult.

no way! i asked you that because i work at Petco in Miami. i heard there was like some shipping confusion or some crap like that but honestly the people that shop at my store don't know squat. i am the only reptile specialist and we've gotten a few morphs of diff. reptiles that only i knew and recognized. keep your eyes peeled. how long ago was it that you got it? did they tell you anything about its color?

I got Nim at the end of October 27th. They just had a sign up that said "red iguanas" and they were charging $100 (much higher than the usual price for a regular iguana this size).

That was it. Everything else was cool and like I said they questioned me on his cage and diet. Either the girl I spoke with knew her igs or she just figured I knew what I was talking about. The only bad advice they gave me was to "feed him lots of carrots so his color will stay red". I know I lost her on carrots, oxalates and calcium. I didn't even bother with the two guys at the checkout who repeated the carrot "tip".

thats odd. i have looked through all the little signs for the reptiles that we can order and i didnt see a "red iguana" sign. i just saw the green iguana. and for $100 bucks. hmmm.... i think over here they are kinda a "coincidence" or your lucky to buy one that maybe came in with the regulars. thanks for the info.

Brian,

He's beautiful! Just curious if his tummy was red as a juvenile or if it started out green and went red. Mine has a green tummy right now so I was just wondering.
