Im really thinking about adopting a tortoise or two but which would be best for me?

It is very hot in summer usually in the 90s with plenty of humidity. In winter it can get very cold with snow and freezing weather...I can keep the torts in the house for winter but humidity is a problem because it can get below 20%...Im thinking I want to adopt russians(there is a reptile rescue I know if that has many different torts)...I could also hibernate them if needed..
Anyway any suggestions?

I live in Missouri, and you just described my weather conditions.

Russians can handle hot and humid as long as it isn't constantly wet. My russians stay outdoors from around April to October, and have shown no signs of stress. They go inside their little tortoise house at night, and most of the time when it rains. Sometimes they like to stay out in the rain. Just avoid cold and wet conditions.

I prefer to hibernate my torts in the basement. When the temps drop to about 60, they slow down and eventually hibernate.

I wouldn't hibernate them the first year you have them.

See www.russiantortoise.org for husbandry.
