Just purchased a 1000 gram female who consistently eats F/T rats. She strikes, constricts and then drops her food. I'm waiting to see if she'll seal the deal and eat it. Anyone else have a snake that likes to play with its food?
Thanks in advance.

My male and female both do that, they eat live, but it looks like they strike and constrict then let go and get "situated" for the eat. My red-tail does the same thing too, but she likes to "play" with it a lot more. She will drag it around for a while before actually eating.
You should watch a savannah monitor eat a rat. It bites it and bites it until about every bone is broken, then picks it up and beats it against the sides of the cage and/or water bowl for a few minutes before finally swallowing it down. When the rat is on the way down and the tail is still sticking out of it's mouth, it looks like a cigar and the little pig is looking around for another one to eat. Kinda gross and messy but very entertaining. My bp's don't play with it, just hit it, constrict it, fix it's jaw and swallow.
