Heat rope ?

socerpro31 Nov 20, 2005 08:58 PM

I am going to "remodel" some of my beardie cages. Im going to put tiles and false floor in. My question is this. Would it be safe to just route several grooves into the floor for heat rope then put a piece of expanded pvc over it? Im thinkin if that is to hot then maybe do the same thing but drill holes throught the grooves to let heat escape out the bottom. any help would be appreciated. thanks for your time. ill post some pics soon of a cage i built for my gf. i think youll all like it.

Expanded PVC disapates heat really well I think you will be pleased. Sounds like an interesting idea. A little excessive for Bearded dragons. I just use a single MVB in my enclosures.

I don't keep beardies, so forgive me, but I thought they are sun baskers, meaning overhead heat. But anyway -

If you want to use PVCx, don't route grooves in wood then lay the plastic over. Make a frame of wood, adhere the heat cable to the underside of the PVC, and lay the PVC over the frame. You may need to cut some channels over any middle frame pieces to let the heat cable clear them.

Thats exactly how i use it for several of my snakes. except the pvc over the top part..it works great like that

beardies are sun baskers that don't need belly heat provided by undertank heaters or the like. They prefer to bask under a heat lamp that creates a hot spot for them. It would really be a waste of your money, because the dragon won't care. All he wants is high levels of light and heat coming from above. If you need night time heat, have a seperate heat lamp with a red bulb or ceramic heat emitter, but as long as your house stays above 65 degrees f at night, your fine.
