Questions on Fox Snakes ( both gloydi & vulpina)

Steve_Craig Nov 20, 2005 10:49 PM

Sometime in the not so distant future, I'd like to add one of the Fox snakes to my collection. Anyone have experience with these beautiful Ratsnakes? Is their care simular to obsoleta rats? Also, if anyone can steer me in the right direction with some names that deal with either gloydi or vulpina, that would be a great help. I do know Jim Sargent has gloydi. Thanks in advance.

I have to run off to work, but I think the main thing to know for now is that they are snakes of the far north and are adapted to long cold winters. If that's ok, then they both are interesting captives. More later...

I have both vulpina and gloydi. I have bred the vulpina for the last three years. I highly recommend them. They have great appetites out of the egg and really never look back. Their metabolism is a little higher than your average ratsnake, so more frequent meals may be needed to keep good body weight (especially if you intend to breed). When I pull my breeders out of brumation, I can feed my female a hopper rat a day to beef her up. The morning after fed the lump is gone and she is looking for more!
I hope to produce the gloydi in 2007. Here is a pic of one of my gloydi. Feel free to email me with any questions. I'd be happy to answer! Take care!
