Update on the baby, and some questions

AlteredMind99 Nov 21, 2005 02:35 PM

So when i cleaned his cage the other day i decided to weigh him...he is 19grams...so he has gained 2 or 3 grams in the past 3 weeks.

Anyways,i snapped some new photos of him, he is getting yellower (a little) and some kind of pattern is coming in!

Two questions...

1. At the moment i am giving him full choice food...he has a dish of fresh greens and a dish of "seed mix" (rep-cal juvi iguana pellets, pretty bird finch food, white millet seed, 15 bean soup mix -ground up-) So my question is...should i be feeding more of a regime than just letting him eat whatever he wants? Should he be eating more greens than seeds or beans or vice versa?

2. when i first got him, i didnt handle him for about a week to let him settle in. He was basking and eating and active, so after a week i figured i could try to hold him. Well, i have held him a few times now and he is a spaz! When i go near the tank he panics and runs around like crazy...climbing over everything. I have no problem taking it slow with him, and understand they arent always super mellow, but im just wondering if i am stressing him too much? I know some lizards are just crazy when they are young (such as beardies and leos) and tend to naturally mellow as they age...do Uros do the same thing? How often should i be trying to hold him?

Scuttle:

Thanks!

Mim

i was once told that at least 50 percent of their diet needs to be leafy greens but preferable more. helga and hugo would choose dry food, particularly peas, over leafy greens any day. so i always put greens in first and then dry food. but if your guy seems to be eating both, i would let him choose.

as for taming the baby, well i am in the same boat as you with my egyptian baby. this is the first baby uro i have had. hugo is a mali and he was a little bigger than your guy when i got him but hugo was always tame and he wasn't captive bred either. he is just an extremely nice uro, ha ha.
