so i come home to the baby and to see if the other baby has hatched. well the baby was twitching really bad so i went to give it some calcium syrup. well i think i got it on its nose because it started gasping and when i went to get a closer look, he took off running under my bed and i lost him. so i point the lamp to the floor so it would be hot and he would go bask. i go to look in the incubator and the one who was hatching this morning still was not out but the egg i thought was dead had hatched but it had all this placenta attached to him and his ribs aren't right it's like the placenta wrapped around him. he is alive but he wn't open his eyes, i freed him from the placenta but i don't know if there is some kind of layer on him like it looks like there is a thin layer of skin that needs to come off him.
the one that would not hatch, well his egg shell was dried to his head and he couldn't get out, i had to slowly peel the egg away and i got some water to remoisten the egg and got him out.
meanwhile, i found the other one, he is in the cage. i have the other two up by the UV lamp, but i don't know what to do about the deformed one. he will push himself up but oh god, i don't know, i don't think he will live but i can't kill him

I would give him a chance. There has been more miraculous recoveries, it is possable he could make it. Post some pics!

Good luck,

Boy, do I feel your pain. I have never been able to "euthanize" a lizard before, and I doubt I ever will. If I had been into euthanasia, I would most certainly have put Millie out of her misery when I *knew* she was going to die anyway. Fortunately for her, I couldn't have killed her if my life depended on it, so she is still here with us today.

The moral of the story: you can never be sure what the future may hold for your little lizard. Give it the best possible start, and hope that he/she has Millie's spirit.

That is really tough. I don't think I could euthanize the little guy unless I thought he was in horrible pain and had no chance of survival. And even then it would be a very difficult thing to do. That is weird, because I don't know how many times I have voted to remove life support from a human at work when asked my opinion. I guess removing heroic medical devices is different than actually doing something to end life that is sustaining itself. I always weigh my decision on chances of recovery and quality of life. I firmly believe it is quality and not length of life that counts, but that does not make the decision any easier. I hope things look better tomorrow. The other 2 seem ok now?
