new childrens check mate

eatinmachine Nov 21, 2005 07:57 PM

I got the female for my male my male which is about 9 months and ready to breed in a year I got him for 60 bucks. The female I got yesterday for 118 and the guys say she is only about 2 years but I find it hard to believe as she is 36 inches and 351 grams. Could she only be two? I read they completely max at 3 and 2 or two and a half is what she should be at. I am not bucking this she is ready to breed this year but I don’t have a partner. She is a little nippy if bothered much but I am gonna be able to handle that if she brings me a healthy litter. Could she be a mudblood of a spotted and childrens? I hope not. She looks like a childrens though. But when I breed next year my first project I am going to put the male into the females cage in early december. Then take him out on feeding day leave him out for 3 days then back together etc. Then after I am sure she is pregnant stop. How do I KNOW she is pregnant if I don’t see that ovulation thing? egg laying container after pre egg laying shed with loose damp moss on warm side of cage. incubating around 86 degrees? I have seen a lot of 82 and a lot of 89-90. Thanks for your help

I have seen Spotteds that big but rarely Childrens. My own are just a bit over two feet and weigh 100 grams more (with 10inches less length) My own 2 yo is a bit over a 1/2 inch diameter and maybe 18inches. I haven't done exact measurements in a while. There used to be a site with head scalation for all the antaresia. Maybe try smuggled.com

I know it is probably nothing. But she is refusing food I tried to feed her today for the first time haven't bothered her much at all (once or twice when changing water) and I put her in her feeding container and she is roaming I will show her the food and she just turns around. I tried one of my live mice and she showed no interest and no interest in the F/T. I will try next week late at night but it annoys me. What else should I try?

Whatever she was eating before is what I would offer again in a week. Be sure it is up to temp. My Children's have killer feeding responses but will hit the heat, not tepid prey. Also, is it possible to feed in her enclosure? Is there a safe substrate? I feed in enclosures, newspaper substrate. It seems like less trouble to an already stressed beasty.

I tried in a shoebox. Maybe I will try in her container and I am using paper towel soon to be newspaper once my texas long nose is 100 sure rid of his mites. THe food was pretty warm it was thawing in the fridge overnight then in about 100 degree water for like 15 minutes. my other snakes like their food except my ball python who is on a feeding strike, and kenyan who doesn't eat frozen thawed yet. Her cage temps are good they are at like 90 for hot spot and like 70 for cool side.
