Well you can't go wrong with a Canon Digital Rebel. It's a great camera with the ability to use all of the lenses that Canon makes. If you want to use it someday for something besides internet pics you have a great camera already and you can always add different lenses in the future!
For something smaller that is sufficient for the internet Nikon makes some nice ones called Coolpix...less expensive too.

olympus camedia is a good digital series, very user friendly, point-click, yet still takes excellent clear, big, crisp images
