Pygmy Chameleon Q

tetrafish2 Nov 22, 2005 03:53 AM

Hi,

I was wondering where I could find a reliable caresheet for pygmies? How hardy are these guys? I always see them at reptile shows and I would like to know if any of you had experience with them...they looks so fragile! Thanks

Go to www.adcham.com and lok them up. Glass terrariums work fine w/ these guys. Heavily planted w/leaveson the substrate. Mine climb up in the branches more than I thought - especially to drink off the leaves. Ambient temps. no higher than 80F w/ a basking spot around 80F onone end of the tank.

Mine eat crickets, fruit flies, and tiny silk worms.

They do not live very long (usually 2 years max and often much less). I would not recommend getting them at a show. They are usually wild caught and have parasites. Pay a bit more and get them from a GOOD breeder and no younger than 3 or 4 months. One real disadvantage is their size in that they are hard for a vet to diag (if you can even find one) and to medicate. I had a trio and all three died within 2 weeks. I had had them for 4 months, got them from a very reputable breeder (The Kammers). We never did figure out what happened.

here is a great article on their housing which will answer a lot of questions and give you an idea about care. Hope this helps!
