gal4321 Nov 22, 2005 10:38 AM

i was reading about in other forums about how people bathe there Ball Pythons but im scared that if i bathe mine that he will drown as i guess most of you have found out that they have no legs. What do i do and how deep should i have the bath and do you think i should have something in the bath while hes in there that i should have a raised section so he is able to escape the water for a breather ?????????????????

First I am thinking you mean "BLOOD" python and not ball correct??? No, your snake will not drown since ALL snakes can swim and very well. When people say they bathe them it simply means putting some water either in a rubbermaid type tub or the bath tub (amount will depend on size of your snake) and soaking them. Your snake has so many muscles and power that it should be able to make it out of the water to either A: escape or B: take a breath (they usually just swim on top).

Just make sure you use plain tap water about room temp and all should be fine

Snakes can swim very well, but if you're going to be soaking it for a while, keep the water pretty shallow. I've heard not to make it deeper than halfway up the snakes body, but I usually make it just deep enough to reach the top of their body. This way they don't have to "swim" the whole time, they can kind of rest on the bottom, and just have to lift their head above water. They seem to float fairly well too, so they usually just hang out there in the water when I soak them.
