gal4321 Nov 22, 2005 10:41 AM

i was reading about in other forums about how people bathe there Ball Pythons but im scared that if i bathe mine that he will drown as i guess most of you have found out that they have no legs. What do i do and how deep should i have the bath and do you think i should have something in the bath while hes in there that i should have a raised section so he is able to escape the water for a breather ?????????????????

IM sorry i posted this in here as well as the blood pythons forum as i didnt thought that was the ball pythons forums

sorry...

Bathe him in shallow water, and he will be fine. Snakes have a need to survive, so just let them in with a ramp to allow them to get out if necessary and shallow enough water to wallow in and everything will be A-okay!

Yes - the water should only go about 1/2 - 3/4 the way up the snake - while it's settled at the bottom of the container - that way it doesn't have to keep swimming or if it wants to it can just rest it's head on a coil without worrying about drowning. Use luke warm water. Some snakes hate to be in the water - and will fight it the whole way - if your snake is like that - they you'll have to sponge bath it.

I don't give mine a bath, they aren't dogs! If it's that important that you think it need one then keep it under 6" deep for an adult and 3" deep for a baby , it can coil up and keep it's head out of the water if in needs to it will NOT drown... I just wipe mine off with wet paper towels when they seem to need cleaned up it's much easier and faster ... Whatever ya do don't use shampoo or anything , Anthony McCain-McCsin's Reptiles.

"i guess most of you have found out that they have no legs"

I feel much better now, I thought it was just mine missing them!

We use a plastic bin to bathe ours and my wife has a ceramic rock feature (fish tank decoration) that she puts in there. For the first couple of minutes he gets as much of him as he can on it and then as he gets calmer he starts swimming around. She knows when he wants out because he starts sliding up the side of the bin.

I don't think they ever need a bath, even in the case of a very bad shed. There are other, better ways to help a bad shed.

And if "bad shed" isn't the reason you want to give your snake a bath, then I can't think of any reason at all!

I wouldn't bother just because you heard someone else did it.

Occasionally I'll have one that has slithered thru a fresh feces and will need a bath - also if they have mites, ticks, injuries or other maladies a bath may also be called for.

I meant in a "normal" python's every day life.

Used as a tool in helping de-tick and de-mite, I understand and I DEFINITELY understand how sometimes they can use a bath if they get too gross.

I just meant that it was unnecessary to give a pleasure soak.
