Arrrgghhh!! Chip udate

PHRatz Nov 22, 2005 01:25 PM

I knew it was going to happen, I just KNEW IT! arrgghh.
The feeding tube clogged up even though I flush it with water after every feeding. I got a piece of plastic weeedeater line into it but it didn't unclog so I took him to the vet this morning, she had less luck than I did with unclogging.
He's there right now because she's decided to do it over, but he won't need anesthesia for the do over, that's good news. He's going to get a shorter tube, s shorter one might help if the food doesn't have such a long way to travel.
He's looking good though he was very active at the vet's & he hasn't yet lost any of the weight he's gained so this is just a bump in the road for him .. .I hope!

Tomorrow will make it 2 weeks with the tube. I tried feeding him real food last week but he wouldn't go for it.
Today I am about to try again because he is much more active now than he was last week.. maybe this week he'll begin to pick at some real food. When I get off the computer in a few minutes I'll put a plate together for him & leave it with him for the afternoon. I hope he'll pick at something!

Maybe tomorrow when he gets to try a bite of turkey he'll eat. I always let all the turtles have a bite or two of turkey. It's their once a year real meat treat, the mud turtle especially loves it. I'll be crossing my fingers for Chip!

This is why I say I have the word sucker tattooed on my forehead. LOL
Chip wasn't my box turtle, he wasn't anyone's turtle. He was a wild boy until the day last month when some dog used him for a chew stick. He was brought to me, I paid to get him fixed up because I fell in love with him the moment I saw him. He's not extremely colorful but he is different from most wild males because his eyes are not red & his head is not green so my excuse for all this is...
he'll make a good educational animal that I can use in the Reptiles & Rodents class I teach to children every June.
The real truth is... I wanted him because I wanted him, just because I wanted him. LOL
Getting him well is a challenge for me too. I like the challenge.
