Bedding for Pacman ANNOYING ME

sw0rdf15h Nov 22, 2005 03:30 PM

I have been using the cocunut fiber, don't know which particular brand anymore. It's all well and good for my Pacman but I have a few selfish personal qualms with it.

The stuff sticks all over my pacman! Because it's so moist, there are bits all over his body, all over his eyes, in his mouth. He doesn't seem to mind but it's dissapointing because I cant' see him in all his glory.

He also spends a lot of time compeltely immersed in it. Would it be detrimental to his health if he couldn't completely bury himself? I was thinking of putting jsut enough substrate for him to stick his head out.

Obviously the health and happiness of the Pacman is more important than my personal desires, but if there is a compromise, please let me know. I would rather not switch to paper towels because it looks... unnatural.

That won't be a problem for your pacman. It should do fine with just enough substrate to bury it up to the nose or eyes.
The only thing I would recommend with less substrate, is to add some fake plants or half log. Sometimes with alittle plant cover they tend to hide less.

i have mine on bed a beast/eco earth and he never burrows in it cuz i put a creamic small planter pot thong on its side so he just goes in there

that seems like a good idea. So you're saying as long as he has a hiding place he won't feel the need to burrow. I have made a new set up:

A water dish buried in gravel that slopes up away from the dish. On top of the gravel is about a half inch to an inch of eco-earth, then a very thing layer of sphagum moss over that. There are three fake plants against the walls and a rock in the middle. Hopefully, this will provide enough cover that he won't feel the need to completely bury. Do you think I should add a small toad house or something? Will the moss cause impaction if its only a small amount?

Thanks for all your help!
