I did some research and the large rattler was killed north of Amarillo in Fritch,Texas. Its in all the small town papers around there. Suppossedly TP&W verified it is nine feet but not 97 lbs. I searched large rattler in Fritch,T.x. and came up with pics and stories. To bad they didn't put it in a zoo.

If it's the one pictured in this article www.ericsiegmund.com/fireant/archivesmt/002421.html, it's a really obvious hoax. Standard photo trick used for fish and snakes. He's holding it with a long pair of tongs, with the snake closer to the camera and probably taken with a wide angle lens. I doubt the snake is even 7 feet, otherwise he wouldn't even be able to hold it in that position.

All I can think of when I see this picture is how I would like to knock that smile of this guys face. This is one of the most disturbing photos I have ever seen.
Sometimes you wonder if the snake is ever going to win.
