Size differences in breeding pair of Hondurans

dawnrenee2000 Nov 22, 2005 05:22 PM

I purchased a breeding male Honduran Milksnake to breed with my Albino Honduran female. She is a proven breeder, about 6 years old and is 3 ft long. The male just arrived and he is also 6 years old proven breeder but is much larger and is about 5 feet long. For those of you who have bred Hondurans before, Will there be challenges due to size differences with breeding this pair?

I appreciated whatever information or advice you have to offer.

Hi Dawn,

The likelihood is that there won't be any problems, but it wouldn't hurt to watch when you introduce her to him, make sure they're breeding not feeding. Hondos only take an hour or so to breed anyway so maybe just stay in the room when you put them together and wait til they s3eparate, and then remove her. three or four of those episodes, spaced 2-4 days apart, will assure her being adequately fertilized.

But 3' is awfully small for a proven breeder hondo female, and it's awfully small for a six year old honduran. Are you sure that length is correct? Are you sure she's a hondo?

The breeder I bought her from said she was an albino tri colored honduran milksnake. Is there a way for me to tell if she is or isn't? I have pics of her. we have wondered since the purchase if she was honduran mainly because of her size.

I agree with Brian in the above post - that's a Nelson's.
Honduran females are too small to breed at 3 feet.
I'd have a talk with the person I bought that snake from if I were you.

Yep, I am working on that right now. Now I am stuck with a very nice Honduran Male that is het for albino and Tangerine. He is healthy and ready to breed..but nothing to breed him with. Guess I have a Honduran for sale now..or maybe for trade for a Nelsons Male.
