And sorta new to boas. I had Colombian Red Tail thirty years ago and gave it up after a couple years. I now have a Colombian Red Tail/ Hogg Island cross that I'm NOT givin' up . Question is, do they go off feed during the breeding season like pythons? He's about eighteen months old and a touch over six feet long so I'm guessin' he's mature. Don't have a lady friend for him yet. Any takers? Thanks in advance.

And a hog cross no less.. Yes, 18 months seems to be the standard, though I've had males go a few months younger than that.. How often do you feed that thing?? I've got 18 month old males that are a tad over 4', and that's with higher than average feeding.. 6' in 18 months seems a little unhealthy. I haven't had males go off feed in the season, a lot of my males will eat during breaks of copulation and go right back at it when they're finished.. Have any pictures of the snake?? I'd like to see the size of his skull, would be interesting to see.. Take care

P.S. I've got nothing against hog crosses, my opening statement meant that's extremely large for a smaller locality cross..

A friend of mine got him in the early summer of '04 and he was about two or two and a half feet long then. I'm not familiar with the normal growth rate of a boa anymore so I really don't know how old he is. He weighs eleven pounds and four ounces and has always eaten anything I put in front of him, from adult mice, my excess, to jumbo rats. I found out tonight he had a touch of constipation. He's dropped a load and will probably continue to eat soon I'll get a pic in here later tonight or somew time tomorrow.

Great boa!! Yeah, I doubt he's only 18 months old, looks much older.. Are you sure he's a hog cross though?? Looks pretty Colombian BCI to me. Nice boa though, and welcome to the forum.
Take care

All I know for sure is that I've been around him for about a year and a half. He was sold to my friend as a cross. He's a good kid whatever he is . Eats like a champ and is mellow as hell.

I don't know about the hog cross part, but it seems the rest of the background info is pretty much hogwash. That snake doesn't look fat enough to be powerfed..which is good, but its neck is too thick, and head too broad to be a year and a half old. I could be wrong, I am still learning.
