Water Monitor

mkper5 Nov 22, 2005 08:22 PM

What would be a good cage size for a pair of water monitors. I have a 13 ft by 7.5 ft by 6ft tall outdoor for the summer months and an 8 ft by 4 ft by 4ft tall indoor until they get bigger. I am having a cage custom built for water monitors from j-worlds cages. For a pair would a 12ft by 8 ft by 6 ft tall do or do I need to go larger. Like around 12 ft by 12 ft by 6 ft tall or even larger. Say my monitor turns out to be male, would any one consider mating a female with him, for a short period of time,is this possible or just a stupid question, that way I would not need to buy a pair. I am getting an HY (High Yellow) Water monitor from Pro Exotics. Would any one with a monitor of the opposite sex be interested in mating them within the next year, year and a half. I live in Illinois, so any one interested. I will incubate eggs if there are any, I have a great set up for that because I used it with my niles awhile ago. Sorry for such a long post and some substantially stupid questions. Thanks

First off, you have a ways to go till you will be breeding them. Let them get to the right size and age first. Yes, you can keep them alone. Your cage size should be somewhat smaller untill it gets a good start and some size to it. Smaller cages while they are young stay nice and warm, plus allow them to catch crickets easily. Take your time don't be in a rush. Especially, if this is going to be your first water. Good luck and by the way I have a HY Sumatran from Pro Exotics, they are top of the line in waters. They are very healthy and great in appearence! You made the right choice in where to purchase one. Have fun!
