Mizzy is sick.

moko Nov 22, 2005 11:22 PM

I found Mizzy with sand in her mouth (I use the reptile sand (not calci)) after about two weeks of laying around and not being very active. I immediately put her in a warm soak and she did poop and also hacked up some sand. What was with the sand in her mouth? She is not eating and keeps her head up most of the time. She was so nice and fat, but is looking thinner now although not horribly thin. She is also pinker than usual. I have been giving her continued warm soaks and have noticed that her eyes are staying more or less closed. I also put her in her own tank with paper towels for substrate after the sand eating incident.

it sounds like mizzy needs to go to the vet and get some antibiotics very soon. if she is keeping her head up, usually that is to help them breathe better. can you see anything coming out of her nose? like snot or anything, is she gasping for air?
once when i had a very sick lizard, he could not pick himself up, so he drug himself and got sand all in his mouth.

Whenever you see them hold there heads up , yes, that is aiding them in breathing like Vonnie said.
Shes in distress, also another indication would be her eyes staying closed.

Sometimes you will (if you listen) hear a Popping sound when breathing.

The sand in her mouth in my opinion is just from sleeping and most likely having her mouth open to breathe and sand just entered the area, maybe shes too week and is swallowing it.

Take her off the sand, hike up her heat a few more degrees, and call your vet, they usually use Baytril.

Sure hope she does okay , let us know
