Honduran , Nelson or What? Help Identify.

dawnrenee2000 Nov 23, 2005 08:08 AM

As I mentioned in an earlier thread , this pretty girl , about 6 years old, proven breeder, a bit over 3 feet long...was sold to me as an ALBINO TRICOLORED HONDURAN. Now that I have gotten another honduran to mate her with I realize just how small she is . Is this a Honduran??? If not what is she?

100% albino nelsoni unless hybridized. Not a honduran.

darn. I thought that might be the case. So How do you know? Please tell me how to tell the difference so I can learn something from this!

The difference is obvious, look at the head shape and the patterning, its known as Meristics. Look at the head pattern and the scalation. Learn about the individual patterns and it will become obvious to you. Remember, if you cannot identify the animals you own, you have no business breeding.

Thank you everyone for the feedback.

I am much more versed and experienced with Kings. This is (or shall I say was) the only milk snake in my collection and I took her in as a pet not an intended breeder. I have grown to love her dearly decided I would like to try to breed her this one time only because I wanted to raise her offspring.

As for the comment that " I shouldnt breed if I can't even tell what my snake is " ...Well,We can't all automatically know everything about every species. We learn by asking questions and finding information along the way. We all start at the beginning when it comes to new experiences or things that come into our lives. It was a reputable breeder who sold her to me as a Honduran, so I took his word for it. I dont fine it necessary to be chastised or put in "dont know crap" category for this , but simply resign to continuing to study and learn about more species and their specifics from my own experiences, studies, and those kind people who are willing to share their knowledge in a friendly manner to help their fellow reptile enthusiasts.

Thanks again for those of you who were nice enough to lend your knowledge. I have learned quite a bit from this.
