Snake Size?

jennrosefx Nov 23, 2005 10:44 AM

I know texas rats can get larger than corns...but on average, how big do they get. And are they like corns in the sense that the males actually get larger than the females, or are they like other snakes where it's the opposite.

Texas Ratsnakes will get up to around 6 feet or even more. I have found some big Texas Rats in the wild that were over 6 feet. The don't get quite as large as some of the populations of Black Ratsnakes or Yellow Ratsnakes, but they are still a big snake.

I believe the males get larger than the females.

I believe in corn snakes the females are usually the largest. I work mostly with Great Plains rats and that's usually the case.

In guttatus guttatus, males are larger on average. But of course there's lots of variability. Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanks, David. I haven't seen that many corns, so shouldn't have said anything...haha.

My male is larger than the female. He is her son. She is about 10years old. He is about 7 years old. The female is the first pic Enjoy. Rin

Wow. They're both amazing. I would love if my Worm got as large at that male...allthough if and when he does, pray he stays as calm and tolerant of handling as he is now...heh. I can't imagine a critter that large being happy in a 30 gallon though...so, maybe I will be building him a larger home down the line. How long did it take that male to get to that size?

How long is the male and female? I have a 2 year old female leucistic that's approaching 4ft. I was just wondering how big she'll get as an adult. I hear they can get as big a 6ft. I hope that's the case. Yours are beautiful.

RinL Nov 25, 2005 10:24 AM

The male is about 6 feet in length. It probably took about 4-5 years to get to adult size. The female is about 51/2 feet. They are both very docile and never try to bite. Yours should stay calm with regular handling. They are very nice snakes, one of my favorites. If I can be of any help, shoot me an email. Good luck with yours. Rin

Rin:

I was so impressed by that pic of your Leucistic Male, that I saved it to my desktop as an inspiration to take such good care of my Leucy that he'd get just as big an beautiful. Your Leucistic T/R is quite impressive. Mine is barely over 20 inches long, but he'll get there one day!

I'm also glad to hear that yours are very tame... mine is too, but I was a little worried about what he'd be when he got "bigger" than me (5'5". LOL.
