WC ratsnake loose in house

Passport Jul 23, 2003 12:05 AM

I never thought I would post such a predicament. I've read where folks snakes escaped but was so careful with my collection. This Texas Ratsnake was brought in to visit for a couple weeks and then the plan was to release him. Well, he beat me to it and now I can't find him. He escaped from a critter keeper. I feel foolish that I thought he couldn't get out of it. Need some advice about locating him. I am moving into a new house in a couple weeks. Hopefully I will find him when moving stuff. He was calm and docile but did strike and bite my little dog but never me. She just got too close when I was holding the snake and I didn't realize she was interested in the snake. Poor thing. Anyone have any suggestions as to capturing him? I put a little mouse in a cereal box with a little hole in it for the snake to get in and placed it next to the wall in the room where he made his exit. What are the chances that he will be caught that way?

I'm not sure whether ur method will work or not. If you cut the mouse(incision in the head) this gives off a stronger scent so the snake may be more likely to go for it. But(this may work if there is no way for him to leave the room) you could put a plastic bag on the floor alongside the walls so that if the snake is in the room u'll be able to hear him move.
Don't mean to be rude but have u checked behind any units in the room?(vivs, cabinets etc..) as these would be warm places.
Hope that helps, sorry if it doesn't. Good luck with finding him!!!!

Kat.
