Switching from Live to F/T

zugzug31 Nov 23, 2005 11:33 AM

What is the best way to switch back to frozen from live? When I bought my corn it was eating f/t. I think I stressed it out to much and it didnt eat for 3 weeks and I offered it pinkies in all sorts of ways. Finally it ate when I fed it a live one and since then has had no interest in f/t. I tried a f/t with a live one and it only ate the live one. Back to the original question, what would be the best way to switch back to f/t? Any comments or suggestions appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Don

How many times have you fed it live?
How often are you feeding it?

What you need to do...and this is my opinion only...is feed it live a few of more times.
Follow me on this.
When was the last time you fed it?
Wait 7 days from that day and feed it a live pinkie. 7 days later feed it another live pinkie. 7 days later feed it another live pinkie.
Now that has been three times. three weeks.
Now, go 14 days and offer it a frozen/thawed. This time put the snake and the pinkie in a small deli dish and place the dish back in the viv. Give it a little while (an hour or so) and check to see if it ate.
I would be willing to bet the pinkie will be gone.
If not, leave it over night. The worst that can happen is the snake will spend the night in a deli dish with a pinkie.
The best that can happen is the pinkie will be gone.
I seriously believe the transition will go OK.

how long do you leave the snake and pinky together? I'm not an expert but i got six corns and sometimes I got to leave them and the mouse in the feeding tub for a minute before they eat with a f/t and sometimes got to wait upwards of twenty minutes. i think patience is the best. i do agree to feed once a week until the swicth is sucessful then twice a week or two mice once a week. like i said i'm no expert this is just what worked for me with my snakes. i had the same problem with my red tail, i would leave him and the hopper for 30 minutes before he would eat but now he's getting better too.

It's not a race. What does it matter how long it takes as long as it eats...?
