Ball Market = Corn Market?

zefdin Nov 23, 2005 02:11 PM

How long do you think it will be before the influx of exaggerated and all together unnatural looking morphs overwhelms the second tier buyers and they tune out to each new flash in the pan wonder morph as quickly as they tuned in? This would leave a few dozen top tier people to trade amongst themselves until prices are low enough to peak the interest of those below?

I would suspect that it will eventually happen, but it's a long time before it does. Corns have more eggs, too, which is a factor. I questioned Kevin and Ralph last year at Philly if the "Beanie Baby" market was going to take place in the BP market. At times this whole biz sounds an awful lot like a pyramid scheme. Too many other species are out there to work with, although not to the financial extent that the BP market is. I'd like to see some Carpet albinos

This is how the whole phenom started, I remember listening to Big Breeder A and big breeder B discuss selling them at the 2001 IRBA San Diego Show. My table was right next to BBA's table. They were laughing that the only people buying/trading them at the time were the other Big Breeders. I guess the joke caught on when Joe Blow thought he could be a pseudo-millionaire (i.e. I have 100 snakes that I ASK $50K each for) like them.

The snake business is no different from the Xbox business, or any other. With the 360 out (or current BP morph), how is the price going on the older models? Not the same as it used to be... The hot item is the hot item, no matter what, and the older star doesn't shine as bright as the new one.
Whether or not there's a slight genetic problem with a very few spiders, buy the animal because you like it. If it develops a problem, then you have to decide whether or not you want to pass that gene on. It's rather naive of us to think the only thing that varies in a new morph would be it's pattern. The DNA chain affects far more then just color. Who knows....maybe a future outstanding color morph would also result in no spurs on males, or an inability to feed or assimilate food. Too many variables.....again.
