PROBLEMS turning up the heat on an ic y pacman

sw0rdf15h Nov 23, 2005 03:28 PM

I got a new pacman yesterday, he is TINY and came a brilliant green. Immediately he ate a cricket of the five I dropped in his cage. the store I bought him from had no kind of heating system whatsoever, but the little guy seemed very active and hungry.

I have put a small heat pad on the side of the tank, as well as a heat pad under the tank. The ambient temperature is now around 80.

Since the temperature raise, the pacman has turned much darker (although still a cool color of green). He is much less active, he just sits still in the water, allowing the remaining crickets to crawl around right in front of his nose. I'm wondering if this is due to me raising the temperature too quick? Should I let him go back down? I am worried because he only ate one cricket.

Also, how do you tong train a shy pacman?

Thanks!

I have changed the set up entirely. That kritter keeper he came in is garbage: the moss set up in there turned into a festering swamp within days. Smelled awful and impossible to clean/change the water. I have since moved him into a five gal. glass tank with a huge heater spanning the entire back wall. The temp maintains around 80, give or take a few. Since this was EXTREMELY stressful for him, I think I'll give him a few days to adjust before feeding.

Or should i feed him immediately to make him feel better?

I can't tong feed him as he is shy, he wont even eat in front of me.

thanks!

it's possibe the crickets might stress him out. But I don't think it would bother the frog if you offered them right away.
If he doesn't take them, then you could always wait a day or so.
