Hi all,
A couple of weeks ago I noticed that there was a small area of fluid on my toad's back. It was hard to see what was underneath it, but being that the rest of the toad was dry, I assumed that it was a cut. Initially, I thought that if I kept her habitat clean that she would probabaly make do natually and heal it herself. I questioned what caused the cut, and the only thing I could think of is that she scraped herself on top of her shelterpiece while lunging at a cricket. I smoothed the shelter more then it was just in case. The only other thing I can think of is that she was actually bit by a cricket - but it seemed too large for that.
It has been a couple of weeks and the cut seems to be a lot larger and is still secreting fluid. I was worrying in the first place, but now I am really concerned. I have found a local vet who can see her, but it is pretty expensive for a student like me, and I want to be really sure that there is nothing I can do to help before taking her there. Does anyone know of a safe substance to treat a toad wound with?
She seems to be alright other then her cut, although she has been eating less (could be partially due to the season?). Still though, I can only wonder how long she will be alright unless something is done soon. I appreciate any help anyone can advise and if there is no other option I will get her into the vet. If I can find a web hosting thing I will try and get some pictures of her uploaded.
Thanks,
Brent
