I NEED HELP

slightlytwisted Nov 23, 2005 04:57 PM

I HAVE A FEMALE BEARDED THAT LAID A CLUTCH OF EGGS ABOUT 3 WEEKS AGO. SHE ALSO LAID ANOTHER ABOUT 20 MIN AGO (5:56PM) AND MOVED TO ANOTHER LOCATION (NOT SET UP FOR LAYING) AND STARTED DIGGING AGAIN. SHOULD I PUT HER IN ANOTHER BOX AND SEE IF SHE LAYS MORE EGGS?

the first time she laid 9 and the second 18. She stopped digging and now the male is pacing the cage and she keeps charging him

I think she may have already layed all of her eggs. Do you have the eggs in an incubator, or are you letting the female take care of the eggs, the female is most likely charging the male because shes protecting her babies. I am not breeding bearded dragons right now, so i dont have any experience with that, but i dont think you should worry. Just keep the eggs warm or in a good area in the cage and hope for the best. The dragons have instincs, they know how to take care of their young.

I don't think you should give advice on things you don't seem to know much about. First off, temps in the cage would be too extreme for incubating eggs, secondly a female would not care for her eggs, she would eat her young if she had the chance. The eggs should be removed from the tank and placed in an incubator. And, as anyone else will tell you, males and females should not be housed together. They can be brought together for mating purposes, then separate them. The male will constantly try to mate with the female and this can be very stressful to her if she is not receptive. Dragons are not social animals and are better off housed alone. Also try using spellcheck on your website if you want people to take you seriously. There are many simple grammatical and spelling errors on your site.

I second that. And Draco92, a few posts back you were trying to introduce yourself as a beardies' breeder. Maybe if you stick around you will learn a few things about dragons, it's a great forum with many knowlegeble people.

No, i never said i am a breeder, i said i would breed them soon, in months. I have friends that are better than me at this, and if i need help i'll ask them, but they say im doing great, so i dont see a problem, and i have not learned anything on this site so far. Nobody seems to want to talk about breeding.

Ooooooooooookay. Ummmmm, first off, you have probably figured out i am not a complete reptile expert, i am not a herpotologist, and i realize i am the only sane one on this site, how was i to know the mother ate her young, obviously it seemed logical to anyone that they were somewhat good mothers, as they are good pets. I dont know, honestly, i dont really care, when the time comes, i'll do research to find out more on breeding, and anyone who has not already done the research before breeding the bearded dragons is out of luck. All im worried abotu is making sure my dragon is healthy, and he is, so i dont see any problem, i think i gave good advice, and anyone who thinks differently should just tell me rather than give me a unch of nasty messages.

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR THE ADVICE ON THE FEMALE. I DID ALREADY KNOW TO TAKE THE EGGS OUT OF THE CAGE. SINCE I WAS NOT TRYING TO BREED AND RECIEVED THIS FEMALE ALREADY PREGNANT FROM A FRIEND I DONT HAVE AN INCUBATOR OR KNOW HOW TO GET ONE. AT THE PRESENT I HAVE THEM IN A 2 1/2 GALLON AQ. WITH AN UNDERTANK HEATER THAT HAS THE SUBSTRATE AT 85dg. I READ A COUPLE OF WEBSITE POSTS THAT HAD TEMP AND SUBSTRATE TO USE AND TEMP AND ALL OF THAT. IF ANYONE HAS ANY SUGGESTIONS ON A BETTER INCUBATOR PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I DID NOT HOWEVER KNOW THAT THEY COULD NOT BE HOUSED TOGETHER AS MOST OF THE THINGS THAT I HAVE READ SAY THAT YOU CAN HOUSE A MALE AND UP TO 3 FEMALES TOGETHER. I HAVE SEPERATED THEM HOWEVER AS IT SEEMS THAT HE WAS HIGHLY ANNOYED AT BEING AROUND HER. AND SHE SEEMED VERY AGGRESSIVE TO HIM. AGAIN THANK YOU ALL. =)
