Jungles housed together?

ekelty Jul 23, 2003 01:21 AM

I just got a pair of yearling jungles that I want to house together. They are in a 55 gallon cage with plenty of hide spots, basking spots and climbing branches. The female is about a foot longer, she's 3.5 ft, and much more robust than the male. Besides possible disease spread, preferred seperation for breeding, and feeding issues (they will both be fed seperately in other containers), are there any other things to worry about? Will a smaller male be overstressed by a larger female in a very roomy enclosure? I know that it would be best to house them seperately, but how serious of risk am I really running? These are being used as display animals.

Well it seems like you know all the cons, and have done a bit of homework. The only problem that I have seen with cohabitation in juvi snake is that the smaller of the two sometimes get so overstressed that it will stop eating. The more dominent of the two will always have the best hide, basking spot, etc. Forcing the lesser to live a suboptimal life. Give it a try and if you see any problems seperate them. That about all you can do.

How many JCP's do you think you'd find in nature within a 55gal of each other?

Probably not many.
