"Desert Snow" substrate

Corn22 Nov 24, 2005 06:08 PM

I recently purchased a substrate marketed as "Desert Snow"for my red-tail boa, it is paper pulp and is fairly expensive. I have only seen it in Petsmart and in the Drs. Foster&Smith reptile catalog.I was wondering if anyone had used it and your opinion of it's use with boas. Thanks in advance for the feedback.

Your boa must be small.. 'cause it would cost alot of money to fill a cage with that stuff for an adult boa.

It is an excellent substrate, but it does not conduct bottom heat well unless spread in a "paper" thin layer and covered with newspaper to trap the heat. For overhead heated cages, no problem.
