COULD IT BE PARASITES?

colorfulcritters Nov 24, 2005 07:13 PM

Could parasites cause lack of appetite and how much would it cost me to take the poor critter to the vet? It's not eating consistently, THOUGH IT DOES EAT. I wonder. It hasn't really beefed up like I'd heard iguanas should, not pigging out enough. It's looking a little frail, though lively, and eats only occassionally. COULD IT BE PARASITES!

BTW it's a juvenile green iguana, about eight inches in length. Someone in my family bought it and didn't dare know how to take care of it, so I'm helping it survive the best I can.

It could very well be parasites. It could also be a tonne of other things, with parasites being a complicating factor, or not. Either way, it's a sick reptile and needs to see a vet.

Call your local vet clinic for a referal to someone who see's reptiles regularly. If no luck, try www.arav.com for a list, and then perhaps their link to herpvetconnect for a less formal list.

Cost is variable from area to area, and unless you're in Canada I can't help you their. Expense is only a reflection of opinion, and thus you'll have your opinion once your vet gives you an estimate.

How long have you had him? They don't like to eat much the first several days in a new environment. Also, how are the temps in the cage? JN
