Columbian Boa vs. Carpet Python

Megamada Nov 25, 2005 09:17 AM

Hi, I have a one year old carpet python that I just aquired in september. She has only eated once for me and i've tried every method to get her to feed. One other snake that I was intreged by was the columbian boa. I used to work at a reptile rescue and they seemed to be very docile, not the case for my carpet. She has not calmed down and even strikes through the glass. Are columbian boas known to have eating problems? Or were the ones I took care of just really easy. Also, do they have an aggressive nature? I am just getting worried with my girl people say they should eat like a dog and tame in about 2 weeks or so. I would appreciate any responces.

Wow, you know how often I've heard Carpets calm down in no time at all.....and I've got a good size group of carpets that will ALL tag you if given half a chance!!! As far as feeding though, they're not usually problem feeders. Generally though, IMO, common boas are much more calm than carpets and usually have no feeding problems unless there is a husbandry or health issue that needs addressed. Good luck, take care!

When I got my yearling male Jungle carpet I thought he would never calm down . It took a few months and with gentle handling he is one of the calmest snakes I own , except at feeding time . Carpets genrally are great feeders , mine was on multipul mice or pinkie rabbits when I got him , wouldn't even touch a rat . After I worked at it a bit rats make up most of his diet now . With my experince boa's are great snakes . All the one's I have and have had in the past are great feeders , I never have had any problems . They have a pretty good temper , esspecially if you get a baby and handle it from the start.Good luck .
