HELP TICK INFESTATION!

boigamaniac Nov 25, 2005 11:20 AM

Discovered to my horrow a colony of ticks on four of my snakes. One was evident with all the black dots embedded in the scakes, the rest had bulging eye rings, signs of ticks underneath.
After checking my collection, I found that four of the snakes had obvious signs, the rest looked normal.
Knowing full well that a tick in one is as good as a tick in all, I need urgent help to address this issue!!!
My options are petroleum jelly. soaking or some antiseptic. None of them seem viable. Unfortunately, anti-tick spray for reptiles is not readily available here in Msia. Please offer me some help!!!

Back many years ago before mite and tick spray where available I used Listerine and water soaks.

I put 5 or 6 inches of water in a tube and poured in a bottle of Listerine. I observed and allowed the animal to soak for about 30 / 45 minutes. This did the trick for most of the little nasties.

The surface ticks can be removed with tweezers. Get down and grasp the head, wiggle the tick to loosen his grip and tug. Do not use heat (hot match heads). Heat will cause the tick to regurgitate its stomach contents into its host.

Good Luck…
