funny story about my mbk

phiber_optikx Nov 25, 2005 02:53 PM

I had heard that they have an incredible feeding response, but didn't really know what to expect. So I fed him his pinky today, and while he was eating I went to refill his water bowl. I came back with the full bowl of water but he was sitting right in the spot where his water goes. So I tried to move him but he just kept jumping around and everytime ended up exactly where he started. So I just sat there and was waiting for him to move on his own. I was sitting there holding his water about 1' over his tank. After a few seconds he sees me and starts moving towards me and he was trying to climb up on my hand. I thought he just smelled the fresh water and was wanting a drink. So I move a little closer and he continues to move curiously towards the water. When he is about 1" away he latches onto my finger. So here I am holding his water bowl and he is hanging from my hand. He let go after a few seconds and was no worse for the ware. I just thought this was funny. he has calmed down a LOT already and hasn't musked me in 3 handlings. But he will just sit in my hand with his vent open in case I decide to make a move. Thanks for listening!

They love to eat!

This whole situation brought up a few questions. I plan on feeding out of cage (especially since I feel the mbk would DEFINATELY associate my hand with food) But will I be able to put them back into their cage after they eat or will they try and eat my hand all of the time? How does everyone else get around this? Thanks for your time.

is a snake hook it is great for handling aggressive ones and also great for handling small paranoid babies with the jitters.
Every snake keeper should have at least one.

My MBK like most, has an insane feeding response. But believe it or not, I always feed in his enclosure. I have never had any problems with him trying to devour my hand, arm, or whatever because
A. I handle him almost every day other then maybe two to three day break for feeding/digestion.
B. I almost never let him see me drop mice in the enclosure.
c. I feel I would have a better chance of being chomped on trying to place my huge MBK right back in his enclosure after he had just fed.
If your going to remove him for feeding, give him some time after his meal get somewhat out of feed mode, before placing back in his enclosure. Or you can just dump him gently back in, from the seperate container your using for feeding.
