Kingsnake Breeding Question

waspinator421 Nov 25, 2005 06:43 PM

Hi all, hope everyone's holiday went well. I have a question that is probably pretty silly to all you experts, but I honestly don't know the answer to it. What better way to find out than to ask!

I am interested in getting into breeding kingsnakes, but I don't know about breeding different patterned snakes together. Is it possible to breed kings that have completely different color patterns? (for example: 50/50 cali king and a tri-color king). This doesn't necessarily mean that is what I intend to combine, I am just wondering if there are any boundaries with breeding kings. I figured maybe since they are all kings, it wouldn't matter... but I really don't know.

Also, does anyone have any good advice for a first-time breeder? I've bred my geckos before, so I have a tiny bit of experience with incubating, etc. I am mainly looking for info on what you guys are breeding, and what goals you have etc.

Any information will be much appreciated. Thanks!

Is it possible to breed bi-colored (eg. cali king) to a tricolor king (eg. mountain king) yes it is possible but you may end up with very unusual stuff in your first generation. so i say for now till you have a better understanding of crosses/ hybrids breed like subspecies 2gether.

advice:
Breed what you like not what hott on the market.

read up on brumation techniques (time/temps/etc.)

watch kings very closely when you introduce them (hate to turn mating into dinner for one).

if you do get them to breed there is tons of info on nest boxes, incubation, etc...

Hope that helps
