Do tails grow back?

musashai Nov 25, 2005 06:54 PM

My tegu is just under 3 feet, well was, but she got in an accident with the entertainment center and Sammy's tail got cut. Well i took her to the vet today and in the process of them weighing her it fell off where it was cut. They cut the tail a little farther back because her vertebret was showing and put a skin flap over the wound. She's just waking up now from the anesthesia and seems to be doing fine. I have heard that they grow back but that they grow back solid black. I just want to know if i should rename her stubby or not

If the tail has been surgically amputated and sutured it most likely will not grow back. I'm glad your Tegu is OK and that it wasn't injured more seriously.
