I'll CALL THEM MYSTIC BALLS...........

anthony james mc Nov 25, 2005 10:00 PM

I just had an offer to breed my founding male to adult female Mojaves... This breeder seems to think this line is different enought that he was /is willing to sacrifice adult female Mojaves to see what the resulting cross would turn out like.. Obviously some people are already thinking this is yet another new co-dom morph, why else would someone risk potentially losing thousands of dollars in production if this is not something different, he already has adult Mojaves and Hypo Mojaves that he knows would match up nicely with female adult Mojaves... I will be breeding this line into female Mojaves before I can breed the line back to itself anyway so time will tell.... Regardless I think I do need to call them something other than "Mojave-like" they do look alot like Mojaves but they are darker, perhaps when bred to a Mojave you will actually put some pigment back into the Super and it will be different than the Super Mojave which erases the pigment and makes a white snake with a lavender head, perhaps this will make something similiar to the crystal ball when bred to a Mojave... Either way if this other top breeder is willing to take this animal on breeding loan (which I cannot do with such a rare animal by the way) then he must think something else is going on, and this is all the more reason to start calling them by name, let me introduce to you the latest proven co-dom ball morph the Mystic Ball... Thanks, Anthony McCain-McCain's Reptiles... PS there is so many new names out there , I think I have heard the term Mystic used on the KS ads before but I think those were unproven lines that were just used as a catchy name for the ad, please let me know if a genetic line of Mystic Ball exists already if so I won't use the name, thanks alot!!!

OK I'll go with that pretty catchy but if it turns out someone is using it already I have to sugest bouncy balls in referance to how many names we have bounced back and forth. If it is co-dom them your set because you would have bouncy balls and super bouncy balls. Dont mind me Im just jealous I dont have anything to name. lol.
Thanks, Jay

put pigment back into the Super? The Super is really the only reason to have Mojaves(and possibly a couple of unseen crosses)!!

Well I have Mojaves already as well as Het Ivories, to me white snakes are cool but to have something that "isn't just another white snake" is better! The Super Phantoms for example blow all the white snakes out of the water in many people's opinions, the Super phantom is worth alot more than the white snakes and will remain to be, the crystal ball is another that most of us would say is more valuable ( more sought after) than any of the white snakes... The white snakes are not the holy grail of the Ball world, why, because their is so many ways to make them now....We used to believe it was the "top dog" because Leucism was supposed to be one of the rarest conditions that existed, well now we know they are not...So I hope the Super form of this morph is not a white snake, it may very well be , but I'd rather have something different than that... This morph may also make a white snake when bred to a Mojave or Lesser (as the phantom does bred to a lesser ) but on it's own the Super may be something yet even different, different is better!!! Just my 2 cents, I like the Mojaves as well (I have 2 pair of them now so obviously I think they are still cool), but instead of breeding Mojave x Mojave (I already know what that Super looks like) in the future I will be breeding Mojave x Mystic to see what happens, much like RDR did with the Phantoms and Lessers, or like Morph King did by breeding Lesser to Mojave, or like Graziani did with Mojave x Het Leucistic Russo Line, Mojave x Mystic should be interesting as well....... Then depending on what the cross looks like I will either breed Mojave males to Mystic females or Mystic males to Mojave females , or Mystics x Mystics it all depends on what looks better the Super Mystic or the cross with the Mojave... I may even end up picking up a Lesser just to mix into the program, can't hurt I'd say... Anyways I hope I answered your question, I think I did and then some!!! Anthony McCain-McCain's Reptiles....

I don't like mohave's that much. Don't get me wrong they are great for making other morphs, but basically its like the yellow bellies for a much higher price. I really like this baby you produced, its very dark. I agree with Anthony, its worth a shot to see if you can produce something different. If you can produce something different, even if its something slight you can breed it into other morphs and produce new double homo morphs, thus making it a more valued morph, even if it resembles a mohave. Anyway good luck with the project, I want to be one of the first to buy one of those dark babies when you let them go no matter what they end up producing. Good luck with it and KEEP US POSTED!

What does the super form look like? If it is proven co - dom then there is a super right?

Yes you are correct, so actually I can only call it dominant at this point because I have a visual that looks the same (actually even nicer) as it's parent in the first generation... I would think it is very unlikely that this will not have a Super form as it looks to be a very similiar morph to a Mojave or Phantom, both of which have a Super form. You are correct however I cannot guarantee it to be a codom as of yet but the odds of it just being dominant (like the Spiders are) is NOT very likely , the Spider is a unique morph as it is one of the only ones that does not have a Super , Yellow Bellies, Pastels, Mojaves, Fires, Cinnamons, Spot Nose, etc , etc all do so I would really be surprised (as would everyone else) if this doesn't have a Super form... So until I can prove otherwise I will be factoring in the likelyhood that this is a codom with a Super form in the cards for the future... If yellow bellies make Ivories, Mojaves make a white Super and Spot Noses make Super Spot Noses then Mystics will make Super Mystics as well, time will tell regardless, question isn't really if there is a Super, it's what it will look like that people are wondering right now......
