A little help with a female leo

Mystic_Dragon Jul 23, 2003 05:23 AM

Right... before anyone says anything, I know my mistakes...

In may, I went to a reptile show, and got a pair of 8 month old leopard geckos. When I got home with them, I realised just how tiny they were for their age, when I compared them to another of my leos.

I decided that it wouldnt do and harm keeping the m/f pair I got together, as they were both to young to breed anyway. Apparently not.

My male started attacking the 20g female, so I hastily seperated them, but it was too late. A couple of weeks later, I had eggs. The eggs are cooking now, though i think one of them is dead.

The female, Sita, survived the clutch, she is putting on weight, and is getting ALOT of calcium. My problem is, though she hasnt ha any contact with the male since they were seperated, about 6 weeks ago, she is gravid again.

Shes gonna lay pretty soon... my guess is in the next 2 weeks...

Has anyone got any comments... can i stop this... is there a way to provide the female with extra calcium?

Thanks

Theres no way to stop her laying, coat her food supply good with calcium and put a little dish in her home to lick. Also could be a good time to try a pinkie every couple weeks while shes gravid, esp. under weight. Good luck

female leos can lay 3-6 (or maybe more) pairs of eggs during the breeding season, and won't need to be with a male much more than once because they can store sperm. my female leo laid 6 clutches of eggs this year and mated with my male leo only a couple times. all you can do is make sure she is eating her fill and getting alot of calcium....newborn, live pink mice are great for gravid leos. scent the pink with mealie guts and put it in the female's mealie dish the night after she lays this second clutch. good luck!
