Stopped Eating

Reptilekid15 Nov 26, 2005 10:20 AM

Help my bearded dragon has stopped eating. I think that it is due to the use of a vitamin mineral supplement. I fed him some crickets dusted with some herptivite, and he grabbed one and then spit it out. He is just ignoring them. As if he can see that they are white. I want to ensure that he gets his proper vitamins. So how should i do it?

How old is your beardie? Are you just beginning to dust your insects for the first time? If he's shedding he might be slowing down just because of that. But if you never fed a dusted crix before I guess it might take some time for him to get used to it. Also you can try another feeder that he will not know the difference between dusted or not, so he might go for it and this way get used to the taste. Hope it helps.

iNTERTESTING....dARWIN SEEMS TO LIKE THE CALCIUM DUSTED AND NOT THE HERPTIVITE (oops...sorry about that caps slip! ;-O I use Rep-cal brand, too.

Darwin is almost 10 months and has been a very picky eater for a few months. He gets all excited at his first cricket, superworm, green, but after one, he's done (except of course wax worms, which I keep to a minimum). He seems to being going thru the usual day length slow down cycle without real brumation. If I take him out and let him wander (indoors, I am in NH and we have 5 inches of snow out there!) he always goes for dark areas. He will only bask after his bath which he gets at least every other day.

So...all that said - maybe your's is in a semi-brumation as well? Darwin is healthy otherwise so I am just respecting his wishes (cater to our herps? no, not us!!! lol!). I just wish he'd told me before I ordered 100 crix every 2 weeks (auto ship), which I now cannot change. Live and learn.

Btw...dust as lightly as possible. It is recommended that rather than do the shake method is to just press their belly into the dust since they really do not need all that much or that often once grown. Feed your crickets all the things you want your dragon to eat and he can get some nutrition via them.
