Galapagos tortoise forum

Hi
Just wondering if we have enough people into Galops to start a Galapagos forum. I guess we could include aldabras also, even though that's like including aluminum in a discussion about gold (see-I've just created the first controversy on the new forum). How do we go about starting one ?

The best way would be to start one totally for galapagos using Yahoo groups. I say we do it. It is so nice to have a network of people set up with a species as rare as the galapagos.

This is a good idea. The only problem I see may be lack of participation because so few have these. This is compounded by those that have them may not be internet savvy. I know that from personal experience many older keepers don't go online. I recall Ed Pirog mentioning a while back the feedback he got from lecturing, etc. that such a small percent of tort people get their info. or go online.

It still is a good idea though and could be very useful!!!!

I would think a problem might be people asking questions that
may be designed to find out where forum participants live. I
think if I had a nice Galop, I would be cautious about theft.

Well I guess there are not a lot of people that have Galops, but possibly lots with qestions about them. If you include aldabra's, you would have an active forum-there is a bazillion of them around. The forums for other rare species such as Beaded lizards and Gila monsters is fairly active as is for venomouse snakes. I would like to start the forum on Kingsnake not yahoo.
As far as theft goes, if you are trusting enough to give out your address on line, you might as well tell them the key is under the doormat and that there is a GHB and xanax loaded meatball to throw at the guard dog also.

Well, if you find enough interested, email me and I will let the Board Leader know that there has been a request. One of the advantages of this new system is adding forums is much easier. I will let my bosses know that there is some interested in a Galap forum now and if you decide you want one let me know.

Cindy- That would be great. Please get the ball rolling on a Galapagos- Aldabra tortoise forum. Let us know when it is up.
Thanks, Elliott

yes, and you've misspelled aluminium as well. well i don't know that there is all that much info out there about gallops except amongst those who have studied them and the relatively small number of people that keep them. I doubt that kingsnake would devote an entire forum to them; thay haven't even seperated grassland/desert tortoises from forest tortoiese in the forums or even acknowledged asian turtles at all. But try forming a ayhoo group. I created one for graptemys and there exists one for each of for geomyda spengleri and cuora galbinifrons and chelus fimbriatus and malaclemmys terrapin

Bloomin- I'll study my dictionary while I am the only one posting on the Galop forum. Thanks
