5 weeks now..... please help...

djseibert68 Nov 26, 2005 11:58 AM

all right i have posted this many times before, but i have a hypo tang that just wont eat. she is about 5 months old and has lost about 6 grams since i got her. we took her to the vet twice, he couldnt find anything out of the ordinary and treated her for parasites to be safe. feces were normal when we got her but since she hasnt eaten there is nothing to poop.... she still drinks water and is still somewhat active. cage temps are optimal and she has been reduced to a shoe box sized breeder tank from a 20L. im going to force feed her some babyfood today but please does anybody have any ideas????

Hi. I have a hypo tang also and mine is going through the exact same problem. I'm not sure what to do except just wait it out and hope that she'll eat eventually.

Sometimes during the winter leos will stop feeding for a couple weeks. It is usually normal unless your gecko is losing a lot of weight.

Have you tried a couple different food items? If you are feeding on mealies, crickets might compel her to eat. If you're feeding on crickets, you could try mealies, or wax worms. Butter worms are also a nice treat for those guys, and maybe that might get her to eat. She seems young for it, but when leopars are going to breed, they often don't eat for a while beforehand, so it might just be a fasting cylce.

my sisters leo was about the same age and quite eating for well over a month except for a mealie every once in a while. they force fed it trying to get it back to eating but it just kept degrading and started to look like a toothpick until in died 2 days ago. we treated it for worms, tried electrolites in the water. baby food everything and none of it worked

I work at a pet store and have never had a problem with these guys, but lately I too have been having this problem with young ones.I am trying to get ahold of a vet, if I get any good info ,I will pass it on.
