Weight

jbmac Jul 23, 2003 06:52 AM

I think my anole needs to put on some weight. I can see where the ribbs are on my anole. I didn't realise it was probably underweight until i looked at some pictures of other green anoles in a book. They all had smooth rounded bodies. What do you think i should do? I have started feeding it more; reptiles eat more in the warmer summer months any way, don't they?
Any suggestions and ideas about this would be great.

well you should always offer food to them so they have food in their cages. Try to get some wild caught food like grass hoppers. make sure you gut load your crickets.. even if its just a ceral thats what i use and greens. if you can see the bones in the tail "hip bones" then its tooo skinny the tail should be nicely filled out since thats where they store all their fat. Anoles are strange i have had them for 23 years, they up and die for no reason and loose weight keep a close eye on your lizard.. and good luck

i offer the crickets fruit and veg and some fish flakes usually.
I also dust them before feeding at least twice a week with Repton. I also give the anole wild cought insects too, such as flies and hover flies, wood lice and sometimes small spiders. I havn't seen any grass hoppers about.

Fish flakes are for .. well fish. use cereal its funny the crickets will fight over it. I wouldnt use fish flakes maybe cheaper but theres stuff in it the anoles dont need so use cereal please.

so will any type of cereal do? Is wheat ok, or corn flakes and oats etc ok?

Whatever you have. I have used every kind but they really fight over those almond nut clusters, start out with a small bit of it and watch em play tug of war. Make sure the cereal dont get wet dont want it to mold, you can also use frozen greens, apples and anything you have in the fridge, squash melons lettuce. But i prefer the cereal. I just love to watch them fight

i've had a green anole for nearly a year now and lately she's been eating less and lost quite a bit of weight...i've tried to tempt her with waxworms just to put some meat on her bones, but i haven't had any luck...any suggestions on how to get to her eat?
