pet stores

ryuman1 Nov 26, 2005 09:04 PM

i was at a PetsMart the other day getting crix.(only place near me with small ones) and i looked at their beardies.
i was horrified. not one had a whole tail. some were bloody. and only about 1/2 an inch was left of the tail past the vent.
so they must not feed them properly right? places like that shouldnt be in bussiness i think.

My God that's horrible!!! Did you report it to a manger or anything like that?

If you don't mind me asking, where was this PETsMART?

This upsets me greatly because I work at a petsmart, and it's stores like the one you mentioned that gives us such a bad reputation. At my store every beardie get inspected twice a day, and at any sign of illness or injury they are isolated at once, and are taken to the vet within 3 days. Even if one is smaller than the rest, it gets isolated to put on weight and the vet will screen it again for parasites and the like. I don't know, maybe the store I work at is just an exeption to the rule.

I'm not trying to say pet stores are misunderstood or anything, believe me I'm not. Hell, I myself normally won't buy anything from any other pet store than the one I work at. A good pet store is a hard thing to find. I guess I was just lucky enough to find one of those rare stores that places animal care over profits (our vet bills can deffinatley attest to that, lol)

In general I would have to advise not to buy animals from pet stores. The only reason I can justify getting mine from the store I work at is that I am directly involved in their care, I know every detail of how they're cared for at the store and who is providing that care.

: )

i have a question....

if you work at the pet store, and take care of them there....why buy one?

i always wanted to work at a pet store because i get to care for many animals that i don't have to buy, pay for their food, or any of the other crap.

now...if working at a pet store only paid $40K a year...

Why buy one.... well I've absolutley have fallen in love with this one beardie, and I would hate to sell him to anyone but myself or this other girl I work with.

To me there is a huge difference between taking care of them at a store, and owning one for yourself, but hey, that's just me. I do like being able to work with so many different kinds of animals that I don't have to pay for (hell, I get paid for it), but this beardie stole my heart from day one.

same thing that happened to my wife. It hissed at her every morning when she cleaned/checked on it, so she decided that she would get him so he would get to hiss at her more often.

This si disgusting.

I would report them to the nearest herp society (where do you live?). I would tell the store manager that you are going to (as nicely as you can) and also consider buying crickets online - much cheaper and you will not be supporting this business. You can also report to a vet, preferabley one certified ARAV.

i went in there again and the dragon's tails arent bloody anymore but still they shouldnt have let them get into that bad of condition (im in Clearwater Florida). Ive only had my dragon for a few months so i dont have much experience but i know that the condition must be pretty bad.
