Do Drymarchon shed more frequently........

bthacker Nov 27, 2005 12:28 AM

than other snakes? It seems my Cribos shed once a month give or take a week. Is it that they are fast growing snakes?

My inexperienced opinion would be "no." Having a Cribo in shed right now I reviewed my feeding and periodic weight gain charts of all my snakes and my single Drymarchon did not appear to be shedding any more than anything else and actually seems to be gaining the most weight by %. I got her in as a sickly little thing which wasn't eating well and I got her going pretty good on food. This will only ber her 2nd shed after aquiring her 10-8-05. She has eaten 8 30-45 gram rats since then and is coming close to a weight double since the day I got her.

Just my notes for you. Hope you can get some more responses.

My pair of yearling BT cribos tend to go into a shed cycle around every 4 weeks or so on average. That's more frequently than my rainbow boas and gopher snakes, but less frequently than some of my milksnakes. They've been pretty consistent since I got them.

Thanks...... They do shed more frequently than my other snakes. I keep mostly boas and they are slower growing animals. The Cribos seem to shed about once a month since I had them. Just wanted to make sure and put my worries that they are shedding so frequently for other not so good reasons. I guess they are just fast growing creatures.....
