Musk turtle growth rate.

PhunkeyPhish Jul 23, 2003 08:08 AM

Im getting my common musk in a few days now, and the turtle was just hatched less than a week ago. I was wondering at what age the common musk turtles reach their maximum size. Thanks

I've had mine for a year and a half and I think he's just now about half his adult size... they seem to grow pretty slowly. He went through a period in the winter when he didn't eat so well. My giant musk turtle is growing much faster, so perhaps that's just the way commons are.

Well thats a good thing for me. Im taking this guy to college in August, so It will only have a 10 gallon. But after the 4 years I plan to upgrade him to at least a 20 long.

I'm not sure if he'll last 4 years in a 10... Mine's in a 10 equivalent right now and I'm thinking of upgrading him. The 20 long isn't THAT much bigger, and if space is really an issue you can use a big plastic tub on the floor.
