Tripoding at what age?

paine Nov 27, 2005 09:38 AM

When is the earliest age anyone has seen an Argus Tripod? When do you think I should expect to see it? My guess is that you have to wait till they get used to you and hold food like a mouse or something for them to reach for. Am I right?

My male red tegu will tripod for food for my wife but not me,(he likes her more) Has anyone else seen a tegu do it?

Mine does it for food. I have never seen it do it just to look around like an argus, though.

My savannah does, he used to do it in his smaller cage. He would get up in the middle to look around, then he started doing it around the edge instead of trying to claw his way up glass. I have not tried it with food. Since he has moved to his big cage I have yet to feed him anything not alive.

A savanna tripoding, anyone else herd of that? I never have, do you mean against the glass or just like the argus in the picture... in mid air?

No I mean standing up in the middle of his cage, he uses his tail to steady himself and then lifts up. I will try to get him to do it tomorrow for his mouse and see if I can get a picture, is it unusual for savs to do it? Or have you just not heard of it?

They also do it sometimes just to survey their surroundings. I assume they won't do this as much in captivity because of the little need to (less space). Otherwise, I've seen them do it at all ages, but some animals won't do it at all/hardly at all (atleast in front of people)

OK thanks for the pictures and info. The one I have is very young so my guess is he/she might do it when he gets a little older. He sometimes seems like he wants to but then dosen't. we will see. thanks again.
