U. ebenaui, pair or trio

slimdogg Nov 27, 2005 11:35 AM

I currently have a pair of ebenaui in a 20H, I've been offered a free male from a private breeder who I deal alot with for my mantellas and darts. He lost his female last winter and is looking to part with the male. My question is would it be OK to put a 2.1 trio in a 30 gallon, I have the tank laying around and the gecko offer on the table. I know some people keep phantasticus in trios , how about ebenaui?

I have a 2:1 trio in a 30 gallon tall. They seem to get along fine.

you can do it, but you just have to keep aware for signs of aggression. most people will say that leaftails arent aggressive toward one another, but believe me, it happens.

Thanks for the input guys, I'm aware aggression could occur. I have more than enough tanks to go around if it gets too bad. But I just wanted to know others experience or opinions instead of just doing it and having all hell break loose. Hopefully things go over smoothly, its not too often you come around a free leaftail nowadays, or anyday for that matter.

well, technically its not free if you're trading for it... but yea, i see what youre saying. just wanted to make sure that you realized aggression can and sometimes does occur in the genus, because so many people use the uroplatus book as their bible and dont believe anything otherwise.

I guess i worded my first post kinda poorly, I buy the majority of my mantellas/darts from this breeder. I'm picking up more golden mantellas to add to my breeding colony, he needs to get rid of the gecko and is throwing it in completely free, no trade here!

cool, sounds like a good deal. i made a trade with a guy ive done a ton of business with about a month ago...cresteds and day geckos for a bunch of satanics. he replied to my emails up until the point where his business actually got the geckos, but then i got an email after they got them quoting prices. im not very pleased with them at the moment, although im giving them the benefit of the doubt because they got them right before thanksgiving. but im starting to feel rather dumb for giving him the geckos before he got his in. i did it in good faith seeing as ive done lots of business with him, and i will do plenty of business to come if he would just contact me. so hopefully ill hear back from him real soon or else theres gonna be a report going into the bbb.

well, just wanted to follow up on that, just got off the phone with the guy i made the trade with, ends up another mike m. from north carolina (who i actually know) emailed the guys, and they ended up getting us mixed up and were emailing him as though he was me and vice versa. they got screwed on the shipment, and they didnt get what i wanted anyway, so looks like i just gotta wait a tad bit longer. says the next shipment of leaftails should be coming through around the first week of december. more waiting, but i cant wait to see how i fare in the trade.
