Hello all,

I have seen my V. niloticus and V. bengalensis ingest rocks - has anyone else seen this in other varanids? I am writing a little paper on this, and would like to include as many species as possible in this - Please email me w/the species, the scenario it occured in, and your first/last name for acknowledgements....Thank you..

She looks at especially white rocks and seems to taste them, then either lose interest or she has obviously eaten a few in her lifetime. Most times I stop her from doing so.

My little savannah the other day was chewing on a round rock. I have no idea how it landed in his cage, must have been in the new bedding. He was trying to eat it but not in hole, he easily could have swallowed it. He was instead chewing it breaking pieces off of the outside. As I said it was round so i thought maybe he was mistaking it as an egg. I took it away from him, I'd rather not take any chances.
