Rhode Island Herp Soc.???

Kikai Jul 23, 2003 08:58 AM

Hi, my name is Kathy and I live in RI. Oddly enough, we don't seem to have any Herp-awareness in this little state. There is a Herp Soc in Mass, but I was wondering if anyone knew of anything more local? Thanks in advance for any input.

Kathy, I do believe there is a Herp Society in Rhode Island. The latest information I have is:

Rhode Island Herp Assn.
hometown.aol.com/RIherps/index.htm
30 Metropolitan Rd
Providence, RI 02909
(401) 751-2807

If this information is outdated or incorrect please let me know so I can change it.

Thank you! I saw their site, but figured it was defunct because the last update was 1 year ago. I sent an email to the contact people to see if they ARE active. Thanks again!

Hello again. To update you, I have not received a response to my email. My guess is that the site is non-operating. There is a Soc in Mass that I may try, being as close as it is. Thank you for your help!

Well you can always try and resurrect the RI Herp Society. There is another thread started on just this topic that might help you out if you wanted to do that. The HS in MA might be able to tell you what happened to the herp society in RI too.

I'm thinking along those lines myself, but feel daunted at the idea of starting something that I may not be able to finish. I just called around to the state rescue agencies, seeing if there was a reptile rescue agency in the State, and there isn't that anyone knows of. No one was able to give me information about it at all. It "seems" that there are NO state or local agencies pertaining to this at all! Now, I know that RI can be insular, and that it IS a small state, but....
Mind you, I am just venting at this point. I opened a door expecting to find something, and found a huge void. There are wonderful people in the herp community here. Regal Reptiles, and JL Breeders....The staff at Rumford Pets. I'm thinking it may be an underground, word of mouth type thing. I am going to do some more face to face talking and research as opposed to computer searching. It may be that it's there, just not avaiable on the net.
YET.
Kathy

p.s. Thank you VERY much for your input. I appreciate it.
